U-TONE Range
Eleven boards. One substrate. One specification package.
The system
U-TONE acoustic boards are manufactured from dense-pressed recycled polyester felt: no fabric facing, no adhesive core. The surface pattern is machined directly into the board substrate, which is why colour and NRC performance stay consistent across all eleven types in the range.
One substrate means one colour catalogue and one set of test reports. Specify cut work wall boards and suspended ceiling baffles on the same project; the documentation does not split and the colour match is exact. Boards with a 25 to 50 mm air gap behind them improve low-frequency absorption beyond the rated NRC.

Eleven boards
Seven wall boards and four ceiling boards on one recycled PET felt substrate. Mix types on the same project: one vendor, one fire certificate, one colour palette.
Wall · Perforated
UTC-CW
Geometric perforations in 40+ patterns with the widest NRC range in the U-TONE system. The most commonly specified acoustic board across offices, education, and healthcare.
Wall · Fluted
UTC-FL
Vertical linear channels at 15 or 20 mm pitch. The specifier default for open-plan offices and hospitality lobbies. Directional scatter with strong mid-frequency absorption.
Wall · Grooved
UTC-GR
Precision horizontal grooves preferred for boardrooms and executive suites. Stronger visual directionality than fluted; works equally in portrait and landscape.
Wall · Custom print
UTC-PR
Full-surface digital print on felt: murals, branding, or artwork on an acoustic substrate. No loss of absorption performance from the print process.
Wall · Inlay
UTC-IN
Two-colour inlay machined from the same felt substrate. Logos or geometric motifs without paint or adhesive film. Two materials, one board thickness.
Wall · Three-dimensional
UTC-3D
Deep relief geometry in pyramid, wave, or faceted profiles. The highest NRC of any U-TONE wall board and the strongest visual presence in the range.
Wall · Modular
UTC-JG
Interlocking modular boards that can be rearranged or replaced individually after installation. Site-trimmable without exposing the cut edge.
Ceiling · Suspended
UTC-BF
Vertically suspended acoustic boards on adjustable stainless steel cables. Treats sound on both faces; effective in atriums, open-plan floors, and canteens.
Ceiling · Horizontal
UTC-CL
Horizontal floating acoustic boards for targeted absorption over workstations or meeting zones. Available in rectangular and custom plan shapes.
Ceiling · Open cell
UTC-OC
Grid-format open cell ceiling board that keeps services visible while delivering NRC 0.80 performance. Integrates with standard 600×600 mm ceiling grid systems.
Ceiling · Curved
UTC-PT
Curved petal-form ceiling boards in clusters or linear runs. NRC 0.85 with the strongest visual impact in the ceiling range.
Why PET felt boards
PET felt, mineral wool, and foam are the three materials most commonly compared in Indian commercial specifications. Here is how U-TONE boards perform against them.
| Property | U-TONE Boards Recycled PET felt | Mineral wool boards Rockwool / Glasswool | Foam boards PU / Melamine |
|---|---|---|---|
| NRC range | 0.70–0.90 | 0.55–0.80 | 0.45–0.65 |
| Fire rating | Class B1, BS 476 Part 7 | Class A1 non-combustible | Typically unrated or Class C |
| Finished surface | Precision-machined architectural felt, 11 profiles | Fabric or perforated facing required | Exposed foam texture only |
| Customisation | 52 colours, print, inlay, CNC profile | None: concealed behind facing | Cut to size only, limited colours |
| VOC / off-gassing | None: thermally bonded, no adhesives | Binder off-gassing on install | Present in some PU variants |
| Recyclability | 100% PET recyclable | Recyclable in select variants | Not recyclable |
Certifications
All eleven U-TONE board types share one fire certificate and one acoustic test report. Wall and ceiling boards specified together on the same project do not split the documentation.

We specified U-TONE Cut Work boards across three floors of the campus expansion. Lead time held within the committed window and the installation team handed over clean. We have since respecified on two additional projects.
We had three vendors on the shortlist. Unidus won partly on cost, but mainly because their fire certification and NRC data covered both wall and ceiling boards on one document. That simplified the specification considerably.
The project required GRIHA compliance documentation. Unidus provided recycled content data and test reports within 48 hours. No other vendor on the shortlist responded that quickly.
Installation
Unidus teams work in 16 cities. They manufacture the boards, ship to site, and handle installation. No subcontractors, no coordination overhead.
Aluminium Z-clips on wall battens; flush elevation, no visible fixings. Boards can be removed and repositioned without damage. A 25–50 mm air gap behind boards improves low-frequency absorption.
Mechanical clips with spikes that secure boards directly to battens or substrate. Faster to fix than Z-clips on large unbroken elevations; boards are removable without damage to the face surface.
Acoustic-grade construction adhesive on flat prepared substrates. Fastest for large, permanent elevations. No battens required; minimal thickness addition to the wall build-up.

Frequently asked
Acoustic boards are rigid or semi-rigid products manufactured from compressed materials (polyester fibre, mineral fibre, or wood wool) that maintain their structural form without a separate fabric facing. Acoustic panels typically refer to a core material wrapped in fabric or a decorative finish. U-TONE boards are manufactured from compressed recycled PET felt and are surface-machined directly to the finished profile, making them acoustic boards in the strict sense. In practice, both terms are used interchangeably in the Indian specification market.
U-TONE acoustic boards achieve NRC ratings of 0.70 to 0.90 depending on the board type and thickness. NRC (Noise Reduction Coefficient) measures sound absorption on a scale of 0 to 1; a rating of 0.85 means 85 per cent of incident sound energy is absorbed. Testing is to ASTM C423. Third-party test reports are available on request.
U-TONE boards are manufactured from recycled polyester felt produced from post-consumer PET bottles. Each square metre incorporates 88 PET bottles. The felt is dense-pressed to 180 to 200 kg/m³ and precision-machined to the finished surface profile. No adhesives, formaldehyde, or VOC-emitting binders are used.
Yes. All U-TONE boards are available in standard sheet sizes (2400×1200 mm, 2400×600 mm, 1200×600 mm) and can be fabricated to project dimensions. Custom sizes, non-rectangular shapes, and CNC-cut surface patterns are available from 12 m² per pattern. Tolerances are ±1 mm on cut dimensions.
Four installation systems are available: concealed Z-clips on wall battens for a flush, removable finish; impaling clips for direct mechanical fixing; construction adhesive for permanent bonding; and a magnetic system for panels requiring regular removal access. Mounting boards with a 25 to 50 mm air gap behind the substrate improves low-frequency absorption. Installation is carried out by trained Unidus teams across 16 cities.
Standard lead time is 4 to 8 weeks from approved sign-off drawings. Sample boxes despatch within 2 working days.
Yes. All U-TONE boards carry Class B1 fire rating to BS 476 Part 7, meeting the commercial interior requirements for offices, educational institutions, hospitality, and healthcare in India. ASTM E84 test reports are available for export or US green building compliance.
Yes. Unidus Acoustics is registered on the Government e-Marketplace (GeM). U-TONE boards have been installed at AIIMS, SBI, Air India, and Ashoka University. GeM product listing codes and GFR-compliant specifications are available on request from the specification desk.
